COMING SOON

When: Every other Saturday at 9am (October to April inc.)
Ability Level: All levels
Duration: 60 minute session

  • Work with a group
  • Something off-road and dirty
  • Variation and progressions each week
About

There are different ways of improving your running speed and strength. They all use the principle of overload, rest and adaptation.

This is commonly known as ‘interval training’, when you run for a specific distance or specific period of time. More than likely you will do this more than once and several intervals are referred to as repetitions. After each running interval a specified recovery time is taken. When a group of intervals are run, with a specified recovery between each, this is called a ‘set’. The speed at which you run each interval is referred to as the ‘tempo’ or ‘pace’.

All of the sessions will be structured and will cater for ALL abilities. Each session will ask different things from you, you will be asked to work on your own as well as with other athletes. We will keep you thinking and asking your body to adapt constantly which is where you will see the improvements.

The sessions will be tough for those of you who have never run a structured session before, but the emphasis will be on ‘LEARNING’ and ‘FUN’ as much as it will be on training hard.

Venue

The sessions are held in the stunning Richmond Park, with the meeting point being at Sheen Gate car park.

TW10 5HS – This is the general post code for the park, your directions will vary depending on which gate you enter the park from.

Equipment

For the session you will need:

Compulsory Kit:

  • Running clothing for the session
  • Running shoes
  • Something to drink

Recommended Kit:

  • Warm clothing for after the session
  • Gloves
  • Stopwatch/heart rate monitor
  • Warm hat
  • Warm clothing for after the session

Being a winter session it is important you dress appropriately for the conditions. Training in the winter months can be very rewarding but it can also be a fast way to get unwell if the correct measures are not taken.

If you don’t have any of these items please feel free to ask one of the rg:active team for advice or visit the rg:active online store where you can purchase these products and many more.

When: Once a month on Sunday at 8am (October to April)
Ability Level: All levels
Duration: 90+ minute session

  • Practise running off the bike
  • Race replica transition racking
  • Practise your transitions
About

For some people the transition is a time to rest and make yourself comfortable so the next sport will be as easy.

Have you ever looked through the result after a race you completed and wondered how the times of people’s transition times are 10 seconds, 20 seconds, 40 seconds and then looked at your own and it reads ’3 minutes’?

Have you entered the London Duathlon or any other multisport event and you want to experience running off the bike, and what the commonly known ‘jelly legs’ feels like without having to find out the hard way on race day?

Or are you one of those people at the top of the results sheets and you are looking to shave off a handful of seconds because it could mean the difference between 11th and a top 10 position, if only you could master having your bike shoes already on the bike in T1?

Whatever your reason for wanting to know more about transition training, we are able to offer you as much or as little advice as you require to make your duathlon or triathlon experience a little easier, faster and enjoyable.

So what is the ‘transition’?

Transitions are the period of time between each of the three disciplines where you change the necessary equipment to get on with the next section of the event. For some people the transition is a time to rest and make yourself comfortable so the next sport will be as easy as possible, for others it is ‘the 4th discipline’ and it’s all about how quickly you can get in and out saving as much time overall as possible.

Venue

The sessions are held in the stunning Richmond Park, and the transition area is at Robin Hood Gate

TW10 5HS – This is the general post code for the park, your directions will vary depending on which gate you enter the park from – The Robin Hood Gate entrance is a pedestrian entrance only.

Where is Robin Hood Gate car park?

If you enter Richmond Park through Richmond Gate, Sheen Gate or Roehampton Gate, you will need to turn LEFT and follow the road in the park round to small roundabout roughly 1 mile after Roehampton Gate. The car park is on your left hand side and there is a pedestrian only gate and toilet block all in the vicinity.

If you enter Richmond Park through Kingston Gate, you will need to turn RIGHT and follow the road until you drop down a short, sharp hill (Challenge Hill). After about 1km after the descent you will arrive at a small roundabout and see the transition area on your left. The car park is immediately after the roundabout on your right hand side.

Equipment

For the session you will need:

Compulsory Kit:

  • A bike
  • A cycling helmet*
  • A triathlon suit (or something similar for both biking and running)
  • Running shoes
  • Cycling shoes (if you have them)
  • Towel
  • Warm clothes for post session
  • Water bottle for hydration

Recommended Kit:

  • Sunglasses
  • Talcum powder
  • Sports lubricant
  • Socks

*If you forget or don’t have a helmet with you at the session you will not be allowed to take part for safety reasons.

If you don’t have any of these items please feel free to ask one of the rg:active team for advice or visit the rg:active online store where you can purchase these products and many more.

When: Monthly rides (October to April)
Ability Level: Intermediate to advanced
Duration: 3-5 hours

  • Ride with a group
  • Get valuable winter miles in your legs
  • Ride leaders to direct you
About

Cycling can be a discipline that many people tend to do solo, however this could be a reason why you may not reach your full potential. Riding with other cyclists and especially more experienced cyclists can improve your performance and training experience to new levels.

rg:active are proud to offer you the chance to participate in our group training rides that will be organised right through the Autumn/Winter periods and when possible during the summer months in SW London/Surrey areas.

These rides are designed to offer you:

– Safe and led routes that will return you back to the start without use of maps, mobiles and taxis.

– While this is not a ‘coached’ you can feel free to ask our coaches for training and advice while out on the ride.

And a fun, friendly and relaxed environment to train with other people without things becoming a race or without the risk of getting left behind somewhere in a country lane, we start as a group, we finish as a group.

Venue

We offer two meeting points for each group ride:

1) 8:00am start – Be ready to leave from entrance gates to Thames Young Mariners, Ham Fields, Riverside Drive, Richmond, TW10 7RX. Outside of these gates there is plenty of on street parking and no parking restrictions.

2) 8:30am start (approx.) – Be ready to leave from outside ‘Moore’s Miscellanea’ 3 Creek Rd, Molesey, East Molesey KT8 9BE. There is a bus stop just off the main road where it is safe to group up. Please not parking here is not easy so we recommend riding to this start point.

Equipment

For the rides you will need:

Bike – You will need to have a road worthy bike, constant mechanical stops while out riding for a bike that needs a little TLC can be frustrating for other riders.

Helmet – No helmet no ride.

Cycling Kit – Please make sure you have suitable kit for the conditions, it can be a long ride if you are cold and wet.

Nutrition – Please carry water and/or a sports energy drink with you, as well as a snack bar and/or energy gels. Some rides we do do a cafe’ stop for a chance to refuel but not all, so do come prepared.

Cash or Card – Please carry a small amount of cash or your debit card with you as you may want to buy food or drink on a cafe stop.

Mobile Phone: It’s always a good idea to carry your mobile phone (in water proof pouch or plastic bag).

If you don’t have any of these items please feel free to ask one of the rg:active team for advice or visit the rg:active online store where you can purchase these products and many more.

Ride Rules

We advertise these rides at the intermediate to advanced riders.

To clarify what this mens… the rides are about usually 70-100km in duration. So, we ask that you are comfortable riding 50-60km at a steady pace of 24-28kph.

We ask that you be comfortable riding on the open roads. We are happy to help you improve your ability at riding in a group but for the safety of other riders you must have some road riding confidence.

We ask that you have clip-in pedals and shoes. these make a huge difference and without them can make staying with a group on the road very difficult. this might not be the case for all riders wearing normal shoes so please state your case if you think otherwise.

Please contact Christine on info@rgactive.com if you have any questions about joining the ride.
